Employment and social protection among persons with partial work capability
Using national register data covering the whole working-age population in Finland, we examine the patterns in employment and benefit and service use (social and health services and employment services) among persons with partial work ability. The aim of the project is to contribute to the understanding on the dynamics of work ability and provide policy-relevant information on the prevalence and investments regarding persons with partial work capability. The project is part of the Sustainable Growth Programme for Finland that is funded by the EU recovery package ‘Next Generation EU’ (NGEU). The project is carried out in cooperation with the Finnish Institute for Occupational Health.

FLUX- Family formation in Flux – Causes, consequences and possible futures
In the FLUX project funded by the Stratetig Council of the Academy of Finland, we study the role of family policies in supporting families’ wellbeing. Using the European Living Conditions Survey (EU-Silc) for our analysis, we specifically focus on the use of childcare services and whether it shapes the ’parenthood gap’ in wellbeing in Nordic countries. Moreover, we investigate socioeconomic inequalities related to the use of childcare services in Europe in 2008-2020 and people’s attitudes towards gender roles and work and family life reconciliation.

INVEST
My research in INVEST, the Flagship project of the Academy of Finland, is related to social and economic inequalities and their outcomes on different groups in the society from a comparative perspective. These groups include single parents, extended families and persons with poor health. The comparative studies include European countries and the region of Latin America and the Caribbean.

Other research activities
I currently contribute as a country expert to the research project ”Barriers to work in Nordic labour markets” that is funded by the Nordic Council of Mnisters. In our first report we identified key barriers to work among vulnerable groups, including young people, immigrants, people with disabilities and seniors.
